Dispositions
"The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE),
a national organization that confers professional accreditation to
schools, colleges, and departments of education to help to establish
high quality teacher, specialist, and administrator preparation,
defines teacher dispositions as follows:
Professional Dispositions. Professional attitudes, values, and
beliefs demonstrated through both verbal and non-verbal behaviors
as educators interact with students, families, colleagues, and
communities. These positive behaviors support student learning
and development. NCATE expects institutions to assess professional
dispositions based on observable behaviors in educational settings.
The two professional dispositions that NCATE expects institutions to
assess are fairness and the belief that all students can learn. Based
on their mission and conceptual framework, professional education
units can identify, define, and operationalize additional professional

1. Dispositions Activity (20 minute activity)

Discuss with your partner the SOE dispositions and then on a sheet of paper, identify the following:

  • Three areas of weakness from dispositions listed on the BU Self or Institutional Educator Dispositions Assessment sheet you were given.
  • Three areas of strength from dispositions listed on the BU Self or Institutional Educator Dispositions Assessment sheet you were given.

2. With a partner, compare and contrast KYTS 6 & NETS*T using the Venn Diagram (15 minute activity)
